Sister Mirosława Góra honored with one of the most important orders in Poland

We would like to share with undisguised pride the information that fills our hearts with pride. Sister Mirosława Góra, director of our hospital, has been honored with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for her social and humanitarian activities. This is the second most senior civilian order, next to the Order of the White Eagle.

The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, and on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, the medals were presented by Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Dera.

We are filled with immense delight and moved that Sister Mirosława's work has been recognized and appreciated in such a special way. Even as a young girl, she knew that by joining the Servant Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she would bring missionary aid. As a graduate of the medical academy, she set off to Liverpool, where she gained the experience necessary to work in countries most in need.

Before Sister Mirosława came to Katondwe, extensive abdominal surgery was not conducted. She equipped operating rooms and trained staff, starting with packing sets for disinfection. At the same time, she knew that expanding the hospital on her own was beyond her strength. That's why she invited others to join this mission.

She helped not only Zambians, but also patients from other countries, who often came by boat. She didn't ask for any visas or passports, because what mattered was helping. The locals have known for generations that if they need medical care, the sisters at Katondwe Hospital will provide it.

Her 35 years of sacrifice and hard work for the people of Zambia are an inspiration to us all. Sister Mirosława has contributed to the development of a support system for people living in harsh conditions. She has made it possible, along with all the people who support the hospital, for the local residents to receive the professional, comprehensive help that is sorely lacking in a daily life. Thanks to Sister, as one of others, dreams have become a reality.

Regardless of beliefs and religion, because help is deserved by every human being. Your path is the best testimony that goodness, courage, and love for one's neighbor really can change the world.
