25^th of May is the African Freedom Day, also known as the Africa Day. On this day in 1963, the Organization of African Unity (OAU ) was founded. It is one of the most important international organisations, one that unites nearly all African countries today.

25^th of May is also the birthday of brother John, a seminarian, who stays in the Katondwe parish as an intern. He received his wishes from Katondwe Mission Hospital team, as well as freshly appointed deacon Emmanuel and Elisabeth, our guest from Germany.

On 21^th of May in St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka an important event for the community of Katondwe took place. On this day, Emmanuel, our parishioner from the village of Mwavi and Edward, his friend from the Seminary, who visited our patients and supported them spiritually for many months, were ordained as deacons.

At the beginning of each day, we find a moment to pray and gather our strength for our daily challenges, and reassert our faith in the meaning of our work.

Today, a Holy Mass was held in the chapel of the Katondwe Mission Hospital, attended by the entire Katondwe Mission Hospital team, students from the hospital's nursing school and our guests from Poland.

We thanked God for the time spent together and prayed that Katarzyna, both Ann, Hanna and Paweł safely return to their homes.

Yesterday was the first day of Holy Week – a very important time in the Church. It is the remembrance of the events leading to the salvation of the world. In the chapel at our Sacred Heart Hospital, people gathered with green palm leaves in their hands. We celebrated together with the liturgy of Palm Sunday that way – the symbol of Jesus entering Jerusalem five days before his crucifixion. Attending the Holy Mass on that day means that we agree to carry the cross, suffer together with Christ and accept our lives as given to us by God.

The name of our hospital – the Sacred Heart Hospital – symbolises and reminds us that we devoted ourselves and our patients to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is why we wholeheartedly celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an important day for the Church.

This year, the holiday is on the 11th of June.
A special Holy Mass was held on the hospital premises that day.

On 12 May, we celebrated the International Nurses and Midwives Day at our hospital. On this day, we wanted to express our admiration and appreciation for our nurses and midwives for their daily, committed fulfilment of duties of their demanding profession. Their knowledge, their skills, and their dedication to others mean that each patient at the Katondwe Mission Hospital can feel safe and cared for.
